Get to know me

My approach to therapy is grounded in neuroscience research that suggests that we can actually heal our brains, rather than just learn how to cope. Lasting healing, flexibility in choices, and freedom from old patterns are possible, they are just rarely achieved by merely talking about issues. Although I have been "traditionally trained", I am not a traditional talk therapist. I have advanced training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Deep Brain Reorienting, and Gestalt Therapy. These approaches target negative beliefs, experiences, and behaviors at a deeper level that is focused on resolution, not management, of problems.

Since 2006 I have worked as an outpatient therapist with adults dealing with a variety of life challenges, including depression, anxiety, over-eating, and relationship issues. In addition, I have also worked in a trauma/burn intensive care unit and have a specific interest in helping people who are facing medical problems, trauma, body image/disfigurement, loss, life transition stress and individuals who are (personally or professionally) in caretaker roles.

I graduated from Temple University with my Masters in Social Work with a focus on clinical counseling, and medical social work. I received my Bachelors in Social Work from Shippensburg University where I specialized in psychology and mental health.

I believe that counseling is not for sick people-in fact, being on this website and being curious about your own potential to grow is a sign of strength and courage! It takes much more courage to ask for help than it does to remain stuck where you are. We all have areas of our life that can benefit from growth, healing, and change. Your needs are at the heart of the therapy process and I will work with you to create an individual plan to address your priorities.

Clients describe me as warm, attentive, open-minded, and empowering. Whether you've tried therapy before or this is your first experience, I understand how stressful it can be to meet with a new therapist and will make every effort to make sure you feel safe and comfortable. Please contact me with additional questions or to take the next step and schedule an appointment.
